TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

The purpose of the test is to evaluate the English proficiency of non-native speakers of English. This test is required to be taken by all the students whose language is not English and wish to study in colleges and universities where English is the language of instruction.

In India TOEFL is a computer-based test (CBT) since October 2000. The test has four sections, all of which are mandatory.

Total time at the Test Centre: Approx 3 1/2 (includes the time for Tutorials).

The clock does not run when you are listening to the conversation, so the total time given for listening section is 40 - 60 minutes.

Finally a total converted score of 0 - 300.

The essay first is rated separately on a scale of 0 - 6 and then is later figured in the total structure / writing score.
